The short version: GiftWit is a free Discord bot that finds gift ideas. We earn small commissions when you buy via the affiliate links shown — at no cost to you. Use it sensibly, don't try to exploit the bot, and we'll keep building it. These terms tell you the formal rules.

1. Acceptance

By adding GiftWit ("the bot") to a Discord server or by using its commands, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, kick the bot from your server and stop using it.

2. What GiftWit is

GiftWit is a Discord bot operated by the owner of giftwit.co.uk, based in the United Kingdom. The bot accepts a natural-language gift prompt via the /gift slash command, uses AI to interpret it, queries shopping APIs (eBay, and others over time) for matching products, and returns 3-5 curated recommendations with images, prices, and affiliate-tagged buy links.

3. Free to use

GiftWit is free. There are gentle rate limits (e.g. one search every 30 seconds per user, a daily cap per user) to protect against abuse and keep the service sustainable for everyone. There are no paid tiers and no plans to charge users for the core gift-search functionality.

4. Affiliate disclosure

GiftWit participates in affiliate programmes including the Amazon Associates Programme, the eBay Partner Network, and others as they launch. When you click a buy link returned by the bot or shown on giftwit.co.uk and make a purchase, GiftWit may receive a small commission from the retailer.

This commission is paid by the retailer out of their margin — it does not add anything to the price you pay. Whether you click a tagged link or go directly to the retailer, the price you'd see is the same.

This is how GiftWit stays free for users. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

5. Acceptable use

When using GiftWit, you must not:

Attempt to abuse, scrape, reverse-engineer, or overload the bot or the giftwit.co.uk site
Use automated scripts to fire commands at the bot (the human rate-limits assume human users)
Use the bot to search for or recommend illegal products, weapons, or items prohibited by the retailers we partner with
Misrepresent GiftWit (e.g. claim it's your own bot, or pretend an official representative said something they didn't)
Click your own affiliate links to artificially generate commissions (this would also violate the retailers' affiliate terms — Amazon and eBay take this seriously)

We may rate-limit, restrict, or remove access from individuals or servers found to be in breach, without notice.

6. Product information accuracy

Product titles, prices, images and availability shown by GiftWit are fetched live from the relevant retailer (eBay, Amazon, etc.). The information is correct at the time of the API response but can change at any moment. The retailer's website at the time of purchase is the authoritative source. GiftWit isn't liable for price changes, stock-outs, listing errors, or anything else that happens between you seeing a recommendation and clicking through.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

GiftWit is provided "as is", on a best-effort basis. We don't guarantee:

That the bot will be available 100% of the time
That any specific gift recommendation will be liked by the recipient
That retailers will fulfil orders, ship on time, or honour returns
That AI-generated descriptions are 100% accurate

Use your own judgement before buying.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, GiftWit and its operator shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the bot. Our total liability for any direct damages will not exceed £10 (and given the bot is free, normally that would be £0).

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under UK law (e.g. fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence).

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally (e.g. when paid tiers launch, or new retailers are added). The "Last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the bot after a change means you accept the new terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
