Privacy Policy

In short: we collect as little as possible. The deal feed works with no account. We only hold your email if you set a price alert, donate, or subscribe, and we use trusted processors (Stripe, Cloudflare, Resend, Airtable) to run the service. We never sell your data.

1. Who we are

GiftWit ("we", "us", "our") is a price-comparison and deal-finding service operated by the owner of giftwit.co.uk, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller. Contact: hello@giftwit.co.uk.

2. What we collect

Browsing the site

Server logs (IP address, request metadata) recorded by our host Cloudflare for security and performance.
Anonymous click data: which products are clicked for a given search or category, stored without any personal identifier and used only to rank deals. No profile is built about you.
Local storage in your browser to remember your membership state and email for checkout. See our Cookie Policy.

Price-drop alerts

Your email address and the product/target price you asked us to watch. Stored in Cloudflare KV and our Airtable admin base so we can email you when the price drops.

Memberships and donations

Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Stripe shares your email, the subscription/payment status and a customer ID with us so we can give you the right access and a receipt.
Crypto donations happen on public blockchains. We only see the incoming transaction to our wallet address; we do not collect personal data through crypto donations.

Advertising

If we run ads on TikTok or Meta, those platforms may set cookies or use a pixel to measure conversions. These only run with your consent (see the cookie banner and Cookie Policy).

3. How we use your data

To send the price-drop alerts you requested.
To provide and bill paid memberships and issue receipts.
To keep the service secure and prevent abuse and affiliate fraud.
To improve which deals we surface (using anonymous click data).
With your consent, to send occasional product or deal emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

4. Legal bases (UK GDPR)

Contract: providing memberships and price alerts you signed up for.
Consent: marketing emails and advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Legitimate interest: security, fraud prevention and basic, privacy-respecting analytics.

5. Who we share data with

We use these processors, each with their own privacy terms:

Cloudflare (hosting, storage). Policy
Stripe (payments and subscriptions). Policy
Resend (sending alert and account emails). Policy
Airtable (our internal admin records). Policy
eBay / Amazon (affiliate links you click through to). Their privacy notices apply once you leave our site.
TikTok / Meta (advertising measurement, only with consent).

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

6. International transfers

Some processors above are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. How long we keep it

Price-alert watches and anonymous click data: a rolling window of about 30 days, then deleted.
Email addresses for alerts/marketing: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Payment and subscription records: retained by Stripe and by us for as long as legally required (for tax and accounting, usually up to 6 years).
Server logs: short-lived, per Cloudflare's retention.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of your data, object to processing, and request portability. To exercise any right, email hello@giftwit.co.uk. You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email, which removes you from future sends and deletes your watches.

9. Children

GiftWit is not intended for under-16s, and memberships and donations require you to be 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes and complaints

We will update the "Last updated" date when this policy changes. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk.
