Privacy Policy

/gift, your prompt is processed in memory, sent to AI and shopping APIs to find products, and the results come straight back to you in Discord. Nothing is persisted on our end beyond brief operational logs.
1. Who we are
GiftWit ("we", "us", "our") is operated as a sole project by the owner of giftwit.co.uk, based in the United Kingdom. For privacy queries: hello@giftwit.co.uk.
2. What we collect
When you use the bot
- Your Discord user ID and username — passed to the bot by Discord every time you run a command, used for rate-limiting (preventing spam) and to address you in replies. Not stored beyond short-lived operational logs (auto-purged within ~7 days).
- Your prompt text (e.g. "cosy mum birthday £40") — sent to AI and search providers (see Section 4) to generate recommendations. Not stored on our infrastructure.
- Optional budget — same handling as the prompt.
When you visit giftwit.co.uk
- Standard server logs — Cloudflare (our hosting provider) records IP addresses and request metadata for security and performance, retained per Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- No cookies are set by GiftWit's own code.
- No analytics scripts are loaded. (We may add cookie-free Cloudflare Web Analytics in future — if so this policy will be updated.)
3. What we don't collect
- We don't store your prompts in any database
- We don't keep a history of what you've searched
- We don't sell or share any personal data with marketing or advertising firms
- We don't track you across other websites
- We don't have user accounts
4. Third parties we work with
For GiftWit to function, your prompt is sent to the following services. They each have their own privacy policies:
- Discord — runs the bot interface. Discord privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude) — processes your prompt to understand the gift vibe and rank products. Anthropic privacy policy.
- eBay — queried for product results that match your prompt. eBay UK privacy notice.
- Amazon — when you click "Browse on Amazon", you're taken to Amazon UK with an affiliate tag. Amazon UK privacy notice.
- Cloudflare — hosts giftwit.co.uk. Cloudflare privacy policy.
- Fly.io — hosts the bot itself. Fly.io privacy policy.
5. Legal basis (UK GDPR)
We process the minimal data described above on the basis of legitimate interest — providing the gift recommendation service you requested by running /gift. By using the bot you implicitly consent to this processing; by removing the bot from your server or stopping use, processing stops.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have rights including access, deletion, and restriction. Because GiftWit doesn't store personal data, most of these are automatically satisfied:
- Right of access: there's nothing for us to hand over — we don't keep records of your searches.
- Right to erasure: same — there's nothing to delete. Operational logs auto-purge.
- Right to object: stop using the bot, or kick it from your server.

7. Children
GiftWit is intended for users aged 13 and over (Discord's minimum age). We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
8. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy (e.g. adding analytics, introducing accounts), we'll update the "Last updated" date and post a notice on giftwit.co.uk and in the bot's announcements.
